Say what?

~Alek and Deryn from Leviathan and Behemoth.

I can never imagaine Deryn telling Alek that she's actually a girl in a freaking serious moment. She's too smart for that. I imagine the situation more along the lines of: They're about to execute an important attack in which her life is in danger ([link] ?) and after all they've been through, she thinks Alek desrves to know. So she tells him, maybe the night before they execute their attack and of course Alek is all "Say what?" Then she's all annoyed/embarrassed and is all "DON'T MAKE ME EXPLAIN!"
